Horizon West transmission lines in a field

Project Overview

North Gila – Imperial Valley Project #2

The proposed North Gila – Imperial Valley #2 Transmission project entails a new approximately 80-mile, 500-kilovolt transmission line that would unlock access to the vast renewable resources in Imperial County, California. The transmission line would span a portion of Yuma County, Arizona, and southern Imperial County, transmitting reliable, low-cost, clean energy to homes and businesses across Southern California.

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the regional transmission organization, selected Horizon West Transmission as the project sponsor to finance, construct, own, operate and maintain the North Gila – Imperial Valley #2 project. The proposed transmission line is part of a portfolio of transmission projects that CAISO has identified as necessary to meet the future needs of the region’s electric grid.

As an existing utility in California, Horizon West has experience working closely with local California communities, landowners and key stakeholders. Horizon West understands an ongoing community dialogue will be instrumental to the success of the project.

The North Gila – Imperial Valley #2 transmission line will help maintain the reliability of the regional electric grid, meet future energy demands and help California reach its clean energy goals. The proposed project is anticipated to be in service by 2032.
